Try your survey on a few people first

Up to 10 people you trust answer your draft. Where a question stops them, they leave a note, and you fix it before you publish.

Here’s how a pilot works

1

Send it to a few people

Up to 10 people you trust get a pilot link, separate from the one you’ll publish. No account needed.

2

See what confused them

Each note lands on the question it’s about. If two of five stopped at the same place, look there.

3

Fix it, then publish

Change anything as you go, and the report marks what was answered before the change and after it. When you publish, keep their answers or set them aside. Nothing is deleted.

1They submit feedbackWhat they see: a place to leave a note on any question.
A survey question on the tester’s screen with its Feedback box open: “What was unclear or confusing?” and a Submit feedback button
2You collect feedbackWhat comes back: every note, for you to mark as you go.
The Pilot feedback panel for A short survey about whether you read instructions: eight notes, four of them new, and notes marked Won’t fix, Noted, Reviewed and Fixed, each shown under the question it is about
3You review feedbackBefore you publish: how many notes are still unresolved, and whether to keep the pilot answers.
The Ready to go live dialog: keep the five pilot responses or start fresh, and a note that five feedback items are unresolved, with a box to confirm you have reviewed them

What you’re asking of them

They open your link and take the survey the way anyone else would.

  • They don’t need an account.
  • Beside each question is a place to say what tripped them up.
  • They stay anonymous unless they choose to say who they are.
  • If they stop partway, the notes they’ve left have already reached you.
